Takmer presne pred tromi rokmi uviedla galéria ZAHORIAN & VAN ESPEN výstavu Vladimira Ossifa. Diváci s porozumením prijali vysvetlenie, že autor je typom nomáda. Jeho vášňou však nie je cestovanie, ale túžba zotrvať na miestach, kde sa dobre cíti a ku ktorým nadobudol hlbší vzťah. Tam chce ostať. Žiť a tvoriť. Byť niekým, kto tam patrí. Pri spätnom pohľade je pre neho Paríž, Madrid, Ortaffa, ale aj Bratislava, New York či Havana domovom.

Tí, čo obdivujú jeho obrazy, vedia, že emigroval do Paríža, kde nemal priateľské ani finančné zázemie. Že zvládol životné peripetie, dokázal sa postarať o seba i svoju rodinu, že získal štipendiá francúzskej vlády, vďaka ktorým mohol slobodne tvoriť. A slobodnú tvorbu nám ponúka aj dnes, keď žije striedavo na Slovensku, kde sa narodil, a na Kube. V Havane našiel svoju životnú partnerku a samotné mesto ho oslovilo svojou autentickosťou. Každého z nás lákajú v neznámych mestách vyhliadky, aby sme mestá videli v panoráme. Vtedy vnímame najmä strechy. Červené strechy stredoeurópskych miest, vrátane bratislavských a strieborné parížske. A potom sú tu strechy Havany, ktoré pozná Vladimír Ossif.

Inšpiráciu z nich prináša aktuálna výstava. V dielach Vladimíra Ossifa netreba hľadať realitu. Veľkorozmerné obrazy sú komponované s využitím segmentov a torz chaosu predmetov, ktoré na strechách Havany Vladimír Ossif videl. Avšak pretavené do žiarivo farebných geometricky orámovaných znakov sugestívne komprimujú vizuálny zážitok. Sú novou entitou. Prinášajú posolstvá o prostredí, v ktorom ľudia pod strechami Havany žijú, bez toho, aby sme nahliadali do ich konkrétnych životov. Predovšetkým sú príbehmi bravúrneho maliarskeho prednesu a jedinečnej výtvarnej poetiky autora.

Aj kedysi v Paríži zrejme Vladimír Ossif vnímal parížske strechy ako dominantný prvok mesta. V tvorbe sa však nimi inšpiroval až dnes. Až teraz ho oslovila nečakaná farebná škála striech v Havane s dominantnými modrými prvkami. Oslovila a upútala ho natoľko, že ani na jednom obraze modrá nechýba, je súčasťou chaosu, čo na strechách Havany vládne. Vitálneho chaosu, ktorý dominuje na najnovších plátnach Vladimira Ossifa. A on sa o túto vitalitu, o radosť z maľovania a farieb sveta, ktorý nás obklopuje, delí so všetkými návštevníkmi svojej aktuálnej výstavy.

Od 1997 ateliér v Bratislave. 2008 – 2011 tvorivé pobyty v New Yorku a v Paríži. Od 2014 paralelný ateliér v Bratislave a v Havane.

Almost exactly three years ago, Zahorian & Van Espen Gallery presented an exhibition by Vladimir Ossif. Viewers broad-mindedly accepted the explanation that this artist is a type of nomad. His passion, however, is not travelling, rather he desires to stay in places where he feels well and to which he has formed a deeper relationship. There he wishes to remain. To live and create. To be someone who belongs there. Looking back, he has been at home in Paris, Madrid, Ortaffa, and also in Bratislava, New York and Havana.
Those who admire his paintings know that he emigrated to Paris, where he had no supportive background either of friends or finance. That he mastered being on life’s periphery, managing to support himself and his family; that he won French government grants, thanks to which he was able to create freely. And freely created art is what he offers us today also, when he lives alternately in his native Slovakia and in Cuba. He found his life’s partner in Havana, and the city itself impressed him by its authenticity.
Each of us finds an attraction in vistas from unknown cities, which allow us to see them in panorama. We notice then especially the roofs. Red in the Central European cities, Bratislava included; silver in Paris. And now here we have the roofs of Havana, familiar to Vladimír Ossif.

The current exhibition brings inspiration from them. In Ossif’s works one does not have to go in search of reality. These large-format paintings are constructed using segments and torsos of a chaos of objects that the artist has seen on the roofs of Havana. Refashioned, however, in radiant colours as geometrically framed symbols, they suggestively compress the visual experience. They are a new entity. They bear messages about the environment in which people under Havana’s roofs live, even without our looking into the details of their lives. Above all, they are instances of bravura painterly delivery and a unique artistic style.

In Paris, too, there was a time when Vladimir Ossif sensed that the dominant element of that city was its roofs. To the present day, they have given him inspiration for his art. But now he has been impressed by the unexpected colour scale of the roofs of Havana, with predominating elements of blue. This has impressed and captivated him so much that the colour blue is not lacking even on a single painting; it is part of the chaos that reigns on Havana’s roofs. A vital chaos, prevailing in the latest canvases of Vladimir Ossif. He shares this vitality, his love of painting and joy in the colours of the world that surrounds us, with all of the visitors to his current exhibition.
